Lizzie-funniest thing EVER

So, as I've said before, I live on a small island where each town has a column in the island newspapers congratulating people on birthdays or telling us about the people the writers ran into while walking their dog etc. My mom ran into the woman who writes my town's column in the grocery store. Please read the following paragraph that was in today's paper:

"Congratulations to Elizabeth Edwards who just graduated from Skidmore College on May 17. Elizabeth was graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She was graduated with a double major in Spanish and International Relationships. She also received departamental honors in International Relationships. Congratulations, Liz, we are all very proud of you."

HAHAHA. Oh yeah, look at me getting honors in my international relationships, hahaha. That 40something thousand dollars a year was well worth it.

Leah- My life in the real world (and some other woman who looks exactly like me!)

So I started work today. I am now officially a real person as Claire puts it. Despite how gross it can be (I still smell like dog pee :( ), its going really well. Tomorrow I help with a C-section. Chinese Crested puppies will be quite the interesting sight to see. They're my vets favorite breed to deliver because you never know if the dog will have hair or not. haha

AND:

so this really freaks me out...Matt took this picture in Hilton Head this past week. Doesn't this woman look A LOT like me? Like not even like Gretchen, but me! I'm quite weirded out. Tony is having Matt send more pictures if has any. You think Matt secretly photoshopped my head on somebody else's body to cause a ruckus? hahaha Anyways, its odd.

Tony - Housing Question

So I just got accepted into graduate school housing at Cornell. The problem is, I only have 10 days to decide if I want it or not. The grad school housing is $550 a month, and I share it with 3 other random grad students. Word on the street is that its pretty shitty, but at least its cheap and I get to meet other people. The other option is to find a 1 bedroom apartment off campus for about $700-800 a month. What should I do?

Claire - Unpacking Nightmare

Can I just tell you how much I hate having to unpack everything? How did we accumulate this much stuff?? And where am I supposed to put it all? It's not like I'm really moving back home, so I don't want to fully settle everything in, but at the same time it's not like there's any other place for everything. I wouldn't even be worrying about it yet if it weren't for the fact that Dave gets in on Tuesday (yaaay!) and so it has to be tidy by then. That, and the fact that it was dangerous to move around my room because 90% of the floor space was covered in some sort of box or bag of my belongings. I've made progress on it today, but there is still plenty more to be thrown in the corner of the closet Tuesday afternoon before Dave's plane lands.

Also, today I spectacularly failed at giving my dad his birthday present. It's his birthday today, and I went to Target with Kate to pick up the deck chairs that he wants for the back yard. So we bought them and took them to the car, and they didn't fit. Now, I tried every way I could think of to fit even just one of them in there, but to no avail. So then I had to go inside Target, ask the nice customer service boy if I could use the phone (since somehow both Kate and I managed to leave our cells at home) call Mum to ask Dad to come to Target with his truck to pick us up. Not awkward at all.... So while we're sitting in the parking lot waiting for him to come I improvise I bow out of a sweater tie that I have in my purse, plus some tin foil to make it sparkle, while Kate makes a card out of note paper and puts it in the envelope that just happens to be in with my other papers. It may have been less than perfect, but I must say, he did look surprised!

And that has been my day. Tomorrow promises to be more exciting. I have to get up and take my mum to work at 4:20am so that I'll have the car, and then I'm off to lunch with Cait. So good times in store for me tomorrow. And then Tuesday the boy gets into town!

Emily-Jumping Spiders

Bonjour everyone- I am currently at Holly's house- keeping kosher, preventing the mean neighbors from calling the cops on the crazy dogs, and avoiding Holly's pothead friends who want to have a party here. I am almost out of milk but I am afraid to go to the grocery store because this town is very confusing and I don't want to get lost! However, you all know I need my cereal so I think I will have to be brave and go on an adventure to ShopRite tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Sooo I am currently watching a movie about the 2000 Florida Recount on HBO while I write this, and as I wrote I thought I heard a familiar voice! I looked up at the televison- shocked!- could it be? No.. it turns out the Joe Liberman just sounds exactly like Sheldon Solomon! I was very disappointed it wasn't him. I was hoping he was making a cameo in the movie. Maybe I've just got Skidmore on the brain.

I would like to add giant jumping spiders to the list of evil animals. Yesterday morning I was in the living room when I saw the biggest spider ever emerge from behind a chair. It was the size of my hand- swear to god- and it was brown and had loooong legs. I could not control myself, I was squealing out loud in the house and getting the dogs all wound up. The worst part is, after I mustered up my courage and found a book to squish the thing with, I couldn't bring myself to lift the book up because I didn't want to look at it. So I slipped I magazine under the book, hoping that I could sandwich the spider between them. Then I lifted up the book and magazine, with the spider supposedly between them and ran to the bathroom to flush the remains down the toilet. But when I went to dump the body, NOTHING WAS THERE. The creature is still out there! I constantly feel like it's crawling on me now and I am paranoid to sleep. And of course after I told Lauren this story she tells me about a certain kind of spider(or cricket that looks like a spider) that JUMPS. I think that's what this one must have done to get away from me. Eeeeeeeeeeek- I am actually sqealing at this very moment thinking about it and the dogs think I am nuts.

Not much else to say for now- pray for me.

Tony - Indiana

Just wanted to let everyone know that I saw the midnight showing of Indiana Jones in costume. It was an awesome experience. The only disappointment was that no one dressed up as a giant boulder to chase me around.

By the way, I plan on visiting Skidmore in a month. I'll tell you guys about the details as soon as I iron them out.

Lizzie-pithy title

So, here's a mini update of my life thus far:
-I've been working every day and thinking about Argentina to distract myself from being sad.
-Erin called me yesterday which made me happy because I got to hear my "don't stop believing" ringtone
-I went to "Noche de hablar espaƱol" the other night and met a girl from Spain who's living and working here this summer. She's super friendly and cute and I feel like we're definitely gonna be best friends this summer. She's 21 and her name is Isabel (the spanish version of Elizabeth) so it must be a sign. Yay I have someone to chat with in spanish!
-I watched part of the Darjeeling Limited, a not-so-good movie with Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody, and Jason Schwartzman because one of my friends is going to India and she rented every movie that had anything to do with India. But, this movie was not really aout India and it was not very entertaining
-A bunch of wild turkeys caused a traffic jam on my way to work the other day

and then I found five dollars....

Claire - From Misery to Missouri

Hey there my chick-a-dees,

Well, I’m almost home… We’ve stopped in Columbia, Missouri for the night, after a long day of driving across 4 states. It rained all the time I was driving, which was slightly sleep inducing, but as soon as my mum took over driving it cleared up and was smooth sailing until dinner. Humph. But tomorrow we’re heading out at 6am, so we should be able to get home by dinner time, and then we’ll finally get a break.

That’s about as exciting as it gets around here. Pretty much I spend my days driving and missing you all and wondering each time the song changes on the radio if it’s going to be safe or if it will make me cry and I’ll need to change the channel in a panic.

And I’ve only caught “4 Minutes” once this whole trip, which is terribly disappointing.

But now I must sleep if I intend on being conscious while driving in the morning.

Love you all,

Claire

Skidmore - A Nuturing Home Turned Death Trap

So today I was being emotional in the car, and my mother said to me:

"So Caitlin, does it kind of feel like you were a bird in Skidmore's nuturing, warm nest and now you've been kicked out?"

My head was flooded with what I imagined to be the awful, carnal, bloody display of the fateful day when Pip and Edward met their ends.

"No Mom, it feels like I was in my nurturing nest, and a vengeful crow perched itself on my ledge only to destroy the life I knew, leaving nothing but a wake of dessicated sticks and blades of dried grass. That's what graduating is like."

Lizzie

Oh my god, it took me so long to figure out how to post to this that I kinda forgot what I was going to write.....

I'll put my graduation pictures soon, I just wanna wait until I get ahold of my mom's camera so I can add those too.

Oh, I remember now! I paid the $2.99 for a new ringtone on my phone, so now whenever one of you guys calls me "don't stop believin" will play, haha. So feel free to call me :)

lot's of love,
lizzie

Tony - Keeping in touch

Hey all,

It's been too long since we last met so I decided to give you guys an update on my life.

Leah and I are still together in case anyone was wondering. However, we've endured hardships and challenges that have made us stronger in the end.

Many adventures have befallen me since you all last saw me. I'd like to think that these adventures have changed me for the better. I'm no longer the money grubbing workaholic I once was.

Alas, I still yearn for the days of yore. It seems like just yesterday that we were all together saying our final goodbyes. Do not fear friends, for I have hope that our paths will cross again in the near future.

Tony

Emily- Yaaaay

Thanks for setting this up gretch- here's what I've done since you all left-

packed up most of my stuff and sent it off with my parents

shopped away my sorrows at Target buying all 3 Indiana Jones movies

attempted to make tea but realized Claire took her hot water boiler and got sad

ate my last sushi thai

looked at facebook pics about 10,000 times

watched the parent trap and narnia with Lauren and Mark

watched star wars and thought of Erin

almost threw my computer out the window cause it wouldn't play our slideshow

Today Lauren and I are doing massive house cleaning- I'm saying goodbye to my classes and then we are going to Bailey's to get fondue! Then I'm off the Grammy Haas's but it won't be the same without you Lizzie!

Hope you are all enjoying being back home- I miss you all so much already! Hope to see some of you at the strolling of the heifers! :)

Gretchen - Remember these songs?

This is the Patty Smyth that was sitting in front of most of us at graduation. Cool, huh?

Gretchen - first post

Woo hoo. Everyone can use this to keep in touch, post "spicy belly" China videos, and everything else. I'll email you the info on how to post.

Write your name(s) in the "title" so we know who is writing it!
